“Herald is built on creativity, romance, integrity, and the friendships that grow over the joy of sharing great tea together.”

Dan got the idea for Herald in the spring of 2019. It came after a decade of working in specialty coffee shops on the west coast, farming, and even starting a bike-delivery sourdough bread company. Dan landed in Portland, finished his degree in graphic design, and married his sweetheart, Lauren, who is the founder of Mizuba Tea Company. Given that Mizuba specializes in premium matcha and heritage green teas from Japan, Dan saw the opportunity to start importing specialty oolongs, blacks, and other teas from Taiwan, China, and anywhere else that was crafting teas of character. The idea of Herald is really built around what Dan was already doing everyday: creating illustrations and designs, working together with friends, and drinking many cups of delicious tea from all over the world.

What makes Herald Tea special?

Herald seeks to always source tea straight from origin. In other words we seek to avoid the added cost of working with brokers and importers, and try to work directly with growers and producers. We understand it is not always easy to accomplish this, but we know that when we can do this, we are able to pay fair prices for truly impeccable teas, and in turn offer fair prices to you, our customers, so you can rest assured that you are getting incredible teas for a great value. Additionally, each and every tea that we feature in our collection is the result of countless hours of tasting hundreds of teas from as many reputable sources as we can access. We trust our decade of palette development from tasting coffee, wine, and now tea, to insure every tea that is selected for the Herald collection is truly a cut above the rest. We can only have joy when we know that you, our tea friends, are getting the best we can find.

Ultimately, Herald is here to have fun, and along with all of you, appreciate, learn, and share all we can about the magic that is tea. We’d love to have you on the journey with us!
